Adult English Classes
It is our goal in the Teton Literacy Program to provide adult English courses that enable students to more fully participate in their community, to access resources and develop capacity to fulfill their goals, and take responsibility for lifelong learning. As a result, we have built our courses around a participatory approach, which strengthens critical analysis skills of the students’ environments and uses student experience as context for language development. The participatory approach is grounded in the educational theory and work of Paulo Freire, a Brazilian who revolutionized literacy education.

Student interest and need informs our decision making in the classroom, in curriculum design and program development. By building our program around student experience and by asking students to take an active role in determining the direction of their learning, it is our intention to strengthen leadership skills and foster independent learning. These skills will extend students’ abilities at home, at work and within the community.

For more information about learning English through our program, call (307) 733-9242, ext. 227 or contact Valley Peters. To volunteer in our classes, please fill out the Volunteer Information form (PDF).
