Drop-in Classes
Since September 2003, the Teton Literacy Program has offered Drop-In English Classes to accommodate students who cannot commit to attending a full session of evening courses, or who wish to supplement their studies. Workers whose schedules change often, mothers who can find two hours out of the week, and learners who are in the area for a short time can now benefit from our drop-in center classes.

We offer classes from 10:00am-12:00pm, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Evening drop-in classes are provided as need arises.

Students of all levels study together through conversation, reading, writing and listening activities that develop vocabulary and grammar. No registration is necessary to participate in these classes and students pay only $2.00 per class.

Language Lab
Computer-based courses are now available thanks to a new language lab. The purchase of 10 laptops in a mobile cart as made possible by the generous donations of Jack and Lynne Fritz and Stand and Barbara Trachtenberg. we offer 2 levels of computer-based courses throughout the year and have open lab hours. These courses enable students to navigate different websites where they can independently practice English skills. These classes also offer students opportunities to improve basic computer skills, as well as familiarize themselves with language learning software available at our facility. In addition, instructors expose students to websites that students may find useful for practical life skills, such as the site for looking up the auto prices through Kelly Blue Book. Open hours for Language Lab Independent Study: M-Th 12:00pm-5:00pm.

Work-based English Classes
In collaboration with Central Wyoming College, we offer a series of English classes for workers in housekeeping and construction/landscaping jobs. We tailor these classes to meet the needs of beginning and low intermediate learners. Classes usually run 10 to 12 weeks, with sessions in the spring and fall. Students meet twice a week for 2 hours each class to practice speaking and listening skills. Though instructors emphasize oral skills, students also learn basic reading and writing. Students have the opportunity to practice the language they need for various situations they encounter on the job such as speaking with guests, responding to instructions, making requests of their coworkers, calling in sick, or reporting an accident. Classes, texts, and dictionaries are provided free of charge to learners through grant funding secured by Central Wyoming College.

12 Week English Courses

We offer English courses, at three levels, for adult students twice a week. Classes are held in twelve-week sessions throughout the year and registration is required to participate in these courses. Courses cost $50.00 for 24 classes. All classes are Tuesday and Thursday nights, 6-8 p.m.

All students are assessed prior to enrollment using the computerized Basic English Skills Test, designed by the Center for Applied Linguistics in Washington, D.C. While this assesses oral proficiency and listening comprehension, we also administer a literary-focused test that has been developed by the same agency. Instructors also use additional assessment tools to provide a wide array of information about student's progress. These include writing samples and a variety of self-evaluation exercises that ask students to reflect on their learning and progress.

Courses offered include Basis English, English in Action, and Culture and Community. the first two courses focus on developing listening and speaking skills for beginning and intermediate English students. After students identify a topic of mutual interest, teachers create language rich activities and projects based on this theme. In the third course, geared toward high intermediate and advanced english learners, the instructor emphasizes discussion, critical thinking, reading and writing skills. Classroom activities include taking field trips around town, discussing articles in the local newspaper and writing editorial letters, and inviting guest speakers to share information on topics such as health, community resources, and immigration.
