The College Intern Experience

Picture

Marina Chapeton Menjivar

Marina reached out to Teton Literacy Center in the Fall of 2018 to inquire about an internship opportunity for Summer 2019. As a student of Human Development and Family Sciences at the University of Wyoming, TLC was the ideal place to complete her internship requirements and accomplish her goals of:
  1. Gaining real-life experience from working with children and families
  2. Learning more about early childhood development
  3. Applying the information she learned in the classroom to real-life scenarios.
Marina joined us for 20 hours a week over the course of 3 months to complete her internship. She shadowed and observed classrooms from pre-K through adults, created instructional and administrative materials and tools, instructed small groups of students at varying age ranges, and became a fully-integrated member of our TLC team.

Marina says " This internship influenced and increased my interest in child development and working with families. I was able to grow and improve on my interpersonal skills. this experience taught me what it would be like to work in the real world and the responsibilities that come with it. It was a great experience and I learned a lot from it. "
