Basic English (Level I)
In this course students will…
- Practice basic conversation such as greetings and how
to ask and respond to questions about work, family, and personal interests.
- Learn how to use present and past tense verbs.
- Learn numbers to talk about time, the calendar, and
money.
- Acquire vocabulary to talk about topics such as work,
health, safety, emergencies, shopping and household business and practice
in role play situations.
- Learn basics to express needs, likes and dislikes, and
give and get directions.
English in Action (Level II)
In this course students will…
- Increase their knowledge of and accuracy in using present, past and
future tenses.
- Use storytelling to explore culture, gain speaking confidence, practice
pronunciation, develop reading and writing skills, and improve grammatical
accuracy.
- Listen to songs and video clips to increase their listening comprehension
skills.
- Use fieldtrips and project-based learning as ways to expand their
learning about an area of interest.
Culture and Community (Level III)
In this course students will…
- Increase their knowledge of and accuracy in using present, past and
future tenses.
- Explore cultural identity, gain understanding of American culture,
and compare American culture with their home country’s culture.
- Develop reading and writing skills as they investigate community
issues in local newspapers and respond to those issues.
- Strengthen their ability to state and defend their opinions through
classroom discussions and build critical thinking skills.
