You are all going to rock the new school year and we are so proud of you! When your teacher asks what you did this summer you are going to have so many stories to tell!   1. Monday: Complete 20 minutes in IXL in reading or math. You can keep using this tool throughout the summer even though our weekly challenges will end this week!
  2. Tuesday: Check out the super fly Hot Air Balloons video below and leave a comment with something you learned!
  3. Wednesday: Mark your calendars for 12:00 today and visit the Blair Place Apartments! The JH Public Art studio will be there to help you get in touch with your creative side! Snap a pic if you see other TLC students there and tag @tetonliteracy in it on instagram!
  4. Thursday:  Pick up a Grab and Go Art Kit from the library. I hope you know that you can officially call yourself an artist with everything you’ve learned and created this summer!
  5. Friday: Make your own Hot Air Balloons! Take a pic and share it with TLC! We can’t wait to see what yours looks like. 
  6. Saturday: Use your internet search skills and find videos of hot air balloon flights in Jackson and Idaho! 
  7. Sunday: Complete 20 minutes in IXL in reading or math! Wow, we are really proud of all the work you’ve done this summer!

Complete all the challenges this week and you will have a magical science experiment to show off to your family, friends or if you're brave enough- youtube! We can’t wait to see pictures or watch video clips of your putting your scientific brain to use!

  1. Monday: Complete 20 minutes in IXL in reading or math. When you work hard on your learning all year long, you are setting yourself up to achieve your dreams!
  2. Tuesday: Check out the spectacular Magic Milk video below and leave a comment with what you are excited to try!
  3. Wednesday: Put your brain to work and make a list of as many recipes or foods you can think of that have milk in them! Make your mom or dad make a list too! How long is your list?
  4. Thursday:  Pick up a Grab and Go Art Kit from the library. What are you doing with all the art you are creating this summer? I’ve been making a gallery on my bedroom wall!
  5. Friday: Make your own magic milk! Feeling dramatic? Film yourself completing the experiment and tag tlc in the video on instagram or upload it to youtube!
  6. Saturday: IXL time! Today, complete a skill of your choice in IXL! 
  7. Sunday: Complete 20 minutes in IXL in reading or math! With only a month before school starts it is time to get that brain ready for learning!

  5. Friday: Complete your seed investigation. We decided to try to grow basil at my house. I can’t wait to eat something I grew!!
  6. Saturday: Walk around the community garden across from JH Middle School and draw what you see! Not only are you putting for gardening skills to the test, you are using your art skills and your map skills that you already learned this summer!
  7. Sunday: Complete 20 minutes in IXL in reading or math! Why do you practice reading and math in the summer? I practice my skills because it keeps my brain sharp and then I can help my students during the school year!

Some of the very first books we are read to as babies are sung because it helps us remember new words and stories. This week complete the series of challenges below to put your creativity to the test and by the end of the week you will have your own instrument and maybe even have started a band! Can’t wait to HEAR all about it.

  1. Monday: Complete 20 minutes in IXL in reading or math. Did you know that kids lose up to 2 months of reading and math skills in the summer? By completing your 20 minutes of IXL, you are STOPPING the summer slide!
  2. Tuesday: Check out the jamming Musical Instruments video below and leave a comment with your favorite instrument!
  3. Wednesday: Go to www.epic.com and read “Acoustic Rooster and his Backyard Band.” It doesn’t matter how old you are, this is such a fun story! Log those minutes reading at tclib.org!
  4. Thursday:  Pick up a Grab and Go Art Kit from the library. What will you make this week?
  5. Friday: Build your own Musical Instrument from the video you watched on Tuesday! I made a drum! I am going to get my friends to make instruments too and start a band!
  6. Saturday: Time to put that creative brain to use! Write a song and perform it with your friends and use your musical instruments! Bonus brave points if you video tape it and tag TLC on instagram!
  7. Sunday: Complete 20 minutes in IXL in reading or math! It takes a lot of dedication to practice your academic skills in the summer. We are impressed!

  2. Tuesday: Check out the wild Animal Adaptations video below and leave a comment about something you learned! How are you doing on those reading logs for the summer reading program at TCLIB? Have you won a prize yet?
  3. Wednesday: Mark your calendars for 11:00 today and visit the Powderhorn Park! The JH Public Art studio will be there to help you get in touch with your creative side! Snap a pic if you see other TLC students there and tag @tetonliteracy in it on instagram!
  4. Thursday:  Pick up a Grab and Go Art Kit from the library. You are working hard on growing your creative brain this summer! Creativity is important in art and it also helps you solve math problems, come up with awesome story ideas and create solutions to real-world problems using science!
  5. Friday: Build your own Super Animal from the video you watched on Tuesday and build it or draw it! My super animal is AWESOME and I named it the Rocket Reading Rabbit! I built it out of sticks and paper and it lived on my front porch, but then it rained and it got destroyed! Ooops. I forgot to give it a waterproof exterior!
  6. Saturday: Time for an adventure! Go for a family Wildlife tour and drive out to Kelly or the Elk Refuge road. Snap a picture of your family in the wild and tag us in it! What did you see? 
  7. Sunday: Complete 20 minutes in IXL in reading or math! Wow, you are getting good at this!

This week put your brain to the test and complete all the challenges below to build your own solar oven and make delicious food that you can cook on your sidewalk! We can’t wait to hear about all of your recipes and see what you make!

  1. Monday: Complete 20 minutes in IXL in reading or math. Did you know we picked out some special skills for you to practice so you can impress your teachers next year? Check out the upper right corner for a link to skills your TLC teacher picked just for you!
  2. Tuesday: Check out the out-of-this-world Solar Oven video below and leave a comment about what you are most excited to cook. Don’t forget to log the minutes you listened to the read aloud at tclib.org in your summer reading profile. They are giving away cool prizes!
  3. Wednesday: Read a recipe with your mom and dad, aunt or siblings! Then try to cook it! How did it come out? Snap a picture and share it with TLC on instagram or in the comments below. 
  4. Thursday:  Pick up a Grab and Go Art Kit from the library. They are first come first serve, so make sure to swing by early to get one!
  5. Friday: Make your Solar Oven from the video you watched on Tuesday and cook with it. I reheated Pizza on mine and it was cheesy and delicious. Don’t be shy, snap a picture and send it to TLC on instagram, facebook, in the comments or to info@tetonliteracy.org. We want to see your skills!
  6. Saturday: Get ready to be brave…. Ask a neighbor, or a family member if you are quarantining, for their favorite recipe!  Collecting good recipes now that you know how to cook and are tasty will help you as you grow up! When I went off to college I didn’t know how to cook anything but mac and cheese. By having your own collection of recipes, you won’t be stuck eating the same boring meal every night of the week like me! 
  7. Sunday: Complete 20 minutes in IXL in reading or math! Did you know that we check your progress on the IXL website! We see you working hard. Keep it up!

This week we are going to design our own maps leading to a treasure.  Complete the daily challenges below to create your treasure map.  What will be the treasure you hide?

  2. Tuesday: Check out the awesome Treasure hunt video below and leave a comment about what you are most excited for. There is a read aloud included in the video! You can count that towards your summer reading minutes with Teton County Library! 
  3. Wednesday: Find a map of Jackson online or go to the visitor center at 532 N Cache st. Can you find your house? TLC? Can you find your favorite park or place to eat? 
  4. Thursday:  Pick up a Grab and Go Art Kit from the library. Take a picture of your finished product at tag @tetonliteracy on instagram or post a picture of it to the comments below.
  5. Friday: Make your treasure hunt from the video you watched on Tuesday and share it with a friend! I hid candy all around my house and my treasure map said my family had to share whatever they found with me! It was delicious.
  6. Saturday: Use the map you found on Wednesday and take your family on a new adventure. Where will you go? Did you discover something new? Snap a picture and tag @tetonliteracy on instagram when you finish the adventure! Then other families can be inspired and try out your adventure!
  7. Sunday: Complete 20 minutes in IXL in reading or math! You are already gaining new skills that will help you next year at school!
