What field trips do they attend?
All students will attend at least one field trip or partner program per week that last from 1 hour to all day. We work with incredible community partners to bring these field trips to life. A full schedule of offsite field trips, with required clothing, will be provided to each student on the first day of camp. Additional waivers may be required for children to attend offsite field trips.
CAn you tell me more about the academic Programming?
A typical SOAR day includes direct instruction in vocabulary, literacy and math in individualized, small group and whole group settings. Students are also provided with time for independent reading during our read and relax half hour after an exciting recreation period. In addition, students have the chance to apply strategies learned during this instructional time during their STEAM club work through hands-on projects, on field trips and during partner discussions.
I want my child to be able to be a kid in the summer. I'm afraid they will burn out on the academics.
We want your children to be able to be a kid in the summer too! SOAR weaves together academic instruction with the exciting and adventurous world of camp! Students will have time for free play, organized games, an epic color war, and lots of time to build friendships that will last into the school year.
All the academic instruction will be targeted to individual students to best support their growth and development. By receiving high-quality academic instruction in the summer, students have the opportunity to experience success and be leaders during the first few months of their new school year. We believe this confidence will help serve them well beyond their summer experience at TLC.

My child doesn't know anyone else and is nervous!
Nerves are natural! Going to camp can feel scary at first. Our staff and counselors are trained to help your child learn to make new friends that they can carry with them even after camp ends! Sometimes it takes a few days to feel really comfortable in a new environment. The only thing we ask is that they try! Check out "what can my child expect from their summer at soar" in the parent handbook. It can help students to know what they should and should not expect from summer camp.
Feel free to reach out to your child's camp leaders or counselors at any point during the summer! We are here to help.
