Snapshot of Volunteering at TLC
What our volunteers do at Teton Literacy Center? Volunteers are critical in bringing the mission of TLC to life. We are seeking volunteers to be matched in a weekly role during the school year. They motivate, encourage and support students and parents with reading, writing, and language development. Volunteers are matched based on interests, schedule, abilities and program needs. No experience necessary!
How to become a Teton Literacy Center Volunteer? Those interested in volunteering should start by completing our Volunteer Application! Applicants will be required to complete am in-person training, provide two positive references and all persons over 18 will be required to undergo a background check.
What is the commitment for volunteers at Teton Literacy Center? Our greatest need is for weekly volunteers who can serve as an individual or small group tutor for children or parents. Volunteers are asked to commit for the school year through the end of May, however we follow the TCSD calendar with all major holidays (Thanksgiving, Winter Break, and Spring Break). If volunteers are going to miss more than 5 weeks throughout the school year. We ask them to consider an administrative volunteer role or split their tutoring with another friend or family member. This provides consistency and a deeper impact for our students.

In order to support students in making growth, we find that having a steady, consistent and reliable volunteer tutor is key. We also recognize that schedules change and may need adjustments. If you are here for the majority of the school year, with the exception of 5 weeks. We think tutoring would be a great fit. This is where we have the greatest need.
If your work or travel schedules don't allow for that consistency, we ask you to think about finding a friend or family member to split the volunteer opportunity with or consider the administrative volunteer role that has ample flexibility.

Wyoming Mandated Reporter Law
Wyoming state law mandates that any individual over the age of 18 who suspects child/vulnerable adult abuse, neglect or exploitation is required to report their observations.
At TLC, this is extremely rare, but in the instance that you do suspect a student is at risk, you are required to inform a TLC staff member of your observations, or if a student makes a disclosure to you. The TLC staff will then document your observation and work with the family to connect them with resources, including the Department of Family Services, as needed.
