Community Need
The achievement gap in our community is a pressing issue that impacts all students. The growing disparity in performance between groups of students impacts the classroom environment, instructional focus, and teacher demands in the classroom. Reading proficiently by 3rd grade is used nationally as an indicator for high school graduation rates.
The need for free services for low-income families through engaging early childhood education continues to grow.
By providing intervention and prevention services, TLC can help eliminate the achievement gap in our community.
- Children not proficient in reading by third grade are 4x less likely to graduate from high school.
- The 2016 Wyoming PAWS assessment illustrated that 42% of 3rd graders and 47% of 6th graders were below proficient in reading.
- 80% of TLC students read at home at least 4 times a week after attending TLC programs, compared with 43% before starting programs.

Our Impact
